Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-informed therapy focuses on supporting regulation, awareness, and flexibility. The focus is on building stability and understanding rather than revisiting trauma for its own sake

Trauma-Informed Therapy in Toronto and across Ontario

Trauma-informed therapy is an approach to care that recognizes how trauma can affect the mind, body, emotions, and relationships. Rather than asking what is wrong with you, trauma-informed therapy focuses on understanding what you have been through and how your experiences may have shaped your current patterns.

Trauma can result from a single event, repeated experiences, or long-term exposure to unsafe, unpredictable, or invalidating environments. These experiences can influence how safe you feel in your body, how you respond to stress, and how you relate to others.

How Trauma can show up

Trauma can affect people in many different ways. Some individuals experience anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or hypervigilance. Others notice emotional numbness, dissociation, difficulty trusting, or patterns of withdrawal. Trauma can also influence self-esteem, relationships, identity, and physical wellbeing.

These responses are not signs of weakness. They are understandable adaptations to experiences that felt overwhelming or unsafe.

Is Trauma-Informed Therapy right for you?

Trauma-informed therapy may be a good fit if you have experienced trauma, chronic stress, or emotional invalidation, or if you feel easily overwhelmed, shut down, or stuck in patterns that are hard to change.

It can also be helpful if you want therapy that feels gentle, respectful, and attuned rather than directive or rushed.

During an initial consultation, we can explore whether this approach feels aligned with what you are looking for.

How Trauma-Informed Therapy helps

Trauma-informed therapy focuses on supporting regulation, awareness, and flexibility. Rather than trying to eliminate symptoms quickly, therapy works to create a sense of safety that allows change to happen naturally.

In therapy, we may focus on:

  • Increasing emotional and nervous system regulation

  • Understanding triggers and trauma responses

  • Reducing shame and self-blame

  • Strengthening self-compassion and self-trust

  • Building safer and more secure ways of relating

  • Integrating past experiences without being overwhelmed by them

Therapy is collaborative and responsive to your needs.

Trauma-Informed Care at Hedefa Psychology Clinic

At Hedefa Psychology Clinic, trauma-informed therapy is the foundation of my work. All therapeutic approaches are applied with attention to safety, pacing, and respect for your lived experience.

I integrate trauma-informed principles across CBT, DBT, ACT, EFT, IFS, and psychodynamic therapy. This allows treatment to be flexible and tailored, supporting both practical coping and deeper emotional healing.

Your identity, culture, and context are central to the work. Trauma is understood within the broader systems and environments in which it occurred.
